How are you building business in today's world?
Some salons are full of clients and others are not. How can the salon business be stimulated in the current market?

Honestly all I ever talk
Honestly all I ever talk about with my clients is hair, and nothing less. The reason is is if you are not talking about hair right away with them, they will think that you don't care about their hair, and if they think that you don't care about their hair they will go and find a stylist who will. By talking only about hair with 99% of my clients, I am upselling services 85% of the time and selling them retail 95% of the time. Not only does that make me lots more money, but it makes me feel so happy because that is what my career is all about. I see how happy they are when they leave and my return clientele has now more than tripled!!!! I must be doing something right!lol!
the single best investment you can ever make is in your education!
I agree 100% Very Great
I agree 100% Very Great advice for any stylist to use!

Well said. If only all of us could be this way.
stop asking
I find that if I stop asking my guest "How are you?" and start asking "What is the best thing that happened to you today?" the conversation can never go in a negative direction and the guest ultimately feels better at the end of the service.

Blogging
We have a recurring item on our salon blog called Last Week's Interesting Hair. We take lots of pictures of the day to day work we do in the salon (just the hair, not the faces.) It is a way for potential clients to get a feel for the type of work we do and increases their comfort level with choosing us as their new salon. If you don't have a blog for your salon yet, I suggest you get one. They are incredibly helpful in building rapport with potential and existing clients and they are free!
Every Day Is An Adventure
Be Excited and Positive
Always be excited to see every client that comes in the door.
Be sure to stay Positive and in tune with your clients needs when they are in your chair.
Don't forget this may be the only extra pampering they are giving themselves since money is kind of tight these days.
Try and not tell them how slow is has been or about your personal problems.
instead tell them "You may never have to pay for a haircut again" That will get there attention . Then tell them about your referral program. ex. If they refer 3 clients to get a free cut. Then give them 4 business cards and put them to work for you. It seems like a win win to me.. I hope it works for you!!
