What shapes are you creating for Summer?

We often receive our greatest inspiration from fashion. Some of the top collections for spring 2009 were Chanel showing tweeds & fabulous knits, Dolce & Gabbana shares satins reminiscent of pajamas, Giorgio Armani’s illustration of romance, big accessories and embellishment everywhere. What shapes are you creating to top off the fashions?

oh the bob!

I definitely agree the LOB is instyle, and of course the classic bob is making a comeback. I notice that there is heavy face framing, and lots of new angles being placed into hair. I like it because it really brings out the creative side. I also believe that this season, and even this whole year is about no limits.

the LOB

It seems to be the season of the "LOB" the long bob. Tons of long bobs with all sorts of perimeters and interesting texture.

shapes for spring

Here in New York the shapes I have been working on seem to be of two extreme differences. Either long, one length simple perimeter cut with very long subtle layers. Or, very short, messy, fun, architecturally strong cuts that are edgier and fuller. People seem to be opening up slowly to the idea of having fun with their hair and look. But it is a slow process, the fear of change and the desire to just throw the hair in a pony tail is a hard habit to break. I find it important to keep even the longest cut interesting by creating a strong perimeter that is either slightly concave, or cut to a point in the middle, giving the eye something to look at in even the most simple haircuts keeps the shapes interesting and sets the client apart (if even slightly) from every one else on the streets.
