September 1989 a cosmetology school was forced to close its doors forever. Manager, Roz Wood couldn’t allow the students to just loose tuition and hours that they had paid for. It was at this point, she committed the rest of her life to the education of stylists in Northern Utah. In less than 6 weeks, Roz built and opened the school New Horizons Beauty College from scratch. Students from the previous school entered New Horizons without loosing hours or paying extra tuition. This heartfelt action is still evident today. In 1989 Roz also became a loyal Brocato user. New Horizons has made Brocato their top selling product line for 20 years. Every year a “Super Saturday” is held the last week in January. Haircuts are specially priced and product refills are heavily promoted in support of the “green” movement. “People bring grocery bags full of empty bottles and wait in line to fill them with Brocato”, said Roz. The school averages 450 haircuts & $2500 in retail that day. This impactful annual event is mainly marketed through strategically placed newspaper and radio ads. Beauty icons such as Sam Brocato & Geno Stampora have been guests of the school to offer advanced education and support. Roz feels that one of the main keys to their success are instructors Amy Lowe and Summer Howe are so dedicated, structured and fearless. Both have been teaching at the school longer than a decade. “Hair color, including a large percentage of color correction is our mainstay. In fact, even in the current economy, color has grown”, said Roz.
